Responsibilities & Overview
The Plover Fire and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Department provides primary fire suppression, rescue vehicle extrication, wildland fire suppression and public education service to the Village of Plover, Village of Whiting, Town of Plover and a portion of the Town of Buena Vista.
Mutual-aid with all Portage County fire departments is achieved through the Portage County Mutual Aid Box Alarm System (MABAS), Division 110.
Portage County Metropolitan Fire District
The department additionally is a founding member of the Portage County Metropolitan Fire District (Metro), an automatic-aid agreement providing automatic incident response across four municipalities including the Village of Plover, Village of Whiting, Town of Hull and City of Stevens Point.
1st Responder Emergency Medical Service
The department additionally provides a highly trained 1st Responder emergency medical service throughout our primary response area. Members are required to be licensed by the State of Wisconsin at the State Certified, Emergency Medical Technician-Basic (EMT-B) level. Several members are licensed to the State Certified, Emergency Medical Technician-Intermediate (EMT-I) and Paramedic (EMT-P) levels.
Portage County Paramedic Ambulance
In April 2018, Plover began operating a new Portage County Paramedic Ambulance that is staffed 24/7, 365 days a year. The Village of Plover has an ISO rating of 3.
Mission
The Mission of the Village of Plover Fire/EMS Department is to provide the highest quality proactive and reactive fire, EMS and rescue service of a modern nature. This service shall include, but not be limited to public education, inspections, fire prevention, EMS, assistance to law enforcement, training and fire suppression. These services will be provided via the most cost effective method as governed by the Police and Fire Commission, Village Board and Fire/EMS Department Officers.
